Prof. Hong graduated from College of Medicine, Seoul National University, Korea in 1983. He finished a Clinical Neurology Fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital and Cleveland Clinic Foundation between 1992 and 1994. He obtained the American Board of Clinical Neurophysiology in 1994.
Prof. Hong has served at a director of Epilepsy and Sleep center since 1995 at Samsung Medical Center, Sungkyunkwan University and established one of the best and largest Epilepsy and Sleep center in Korea. He is a direct of Epilepsy and Sleep Center since 1995 and trained many sleep specialists in Korea.
He served as a president of Korean Society of Sleep Medicine in 2010 - 2011 and a president of Korean Sleep Research Society in 2008 – 2012. Prof. Hong was a chair of scientific committee of 9th World Congress on Sleep Apnea which took place successfully in 2009. He was a co-chair of World Congress on Sleep Medicine 2015 and a chair of local organizing committee of this congress which was held in Seoul, Korea on March 21-25, 2015.
Dr. Hong has published more than 200 research articles in Sleep, Sleep Medicine, Journal of Sleep Research, Neurology, Brain, Annals of Neurology, etc. He wrote 11 book chapters in the field of Neurology, Epilepsy and Sleep Medicine. His major research fields are neuroimaging, high frequency oscillation and cognition in Sleep Disorders and Epilepsy.
He received 14 academic awards including Minister of Health and Welfare Award, Korean Neurological Association Award, Korean Epilepsy Society award, Korean Society of Sleep Medicine Award, Siemens Academic Award and so on.
